Today, in the spotlight, is Jessica Cornwell from our in Raleigh, NC office.
Would you like to introduce yourself?
My name is Jessica Cornwell. I’m a Senior Product Designer located in Raleigh, NC.
Can you describe your role at Meltwater?
As a Product Designer, I get the opportunity to work with multiple teams. I have my core UX team but I also get to work with 4 engineering teams. My teams are focused on building the social media engagement/analytics product. My role as a UX designer is to come up with the best user experience for our customers in the social area. I work very closely with my PO’s, engineers, UX writing, UX research, and other UX designers to collaborate and brainstorm different solutions. On my own, I spend a lot of time designing/prototyping & iterating on projects in Figma.
What does a typical day look like for you?
Most of my days start with standups with my engineering teams. Most days have at least one refinement or planning meeting that I attend since I support several teams. In between meetings, I focus on fleshing out designs for the projects I’m working on. I also have regular touchpoints with the rest of the UX team to have others look over my work ensuring that the designs are consistent with the rest of the app or just to brainstorm together. I’m also available all day to pop into my engineering team meetings to discuss any UX issues that may come up.
Favorite or proudest project / part of working at Meltwater?
I joined Meltwater through an acquisition and I was part of the effort to get designs consistent with the rest of the Meltwater app. I’m honestly just super proud of the entire social media engagement product area because I’ve seen the progress from day 1. It was very rewarding to see how we could come together as many new teams and build a successful product from the ground up. Today, it’s nice to see the product continue to mature especially knowing that every feature that the teams roll out solves customer problems.
What do you do to relax / unwind?
Whenever I get some down time, I enjoy reading. I read all of the Harry Potter books when I was younger and I’m in the process of reading the second book to one of my children as part of their bedtime routine. I also enjoy DIY projects with my family. I tend to surf Pinterest for new projects to do, such as the entryway/mudroom that I’ve built for my home. And when I have time, I like to do acrylic painting and other random crafts.
